Gold and Silver Week
January 12, 2011 - Team Ontario won gold last week at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Congratulations to former Jr. 67's AAA players Alex Gudbranson, Daniel Altshuller and to former Upper Canada Cyclones player Slater Koekkoek.
Just a day later in Buffalo, New York Team Canada Under 20 played the Russians in the gold medal match of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Tournament. After a strong first two periods for Team Canada the Russians fought back hard and defeated our Canadian boys 5-3. Marlies Tournament Highlights
January 10, 2011 - Three of the Jr. 67's AAA teams travelled to Toronto to play in the Marlboros International Holiday Classic Tournament held from December 26th to 30th, 2010. Below find highlights from each of the teams.
Minor Bantams at the Marlies tournament
The Minor Bantams advanced out of a tough pool at the Marlies Holiday Classic with a record of 2-1-1. The team finished 2nd in its pool after playing Pittsburg Hornets, Vaughan Kings, Ajax-Pickering Raiders and Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs; placing 5th in their 16 team conference. This placement advanced the team to the divisional playoff round against the Mississauga Rebels, where they dropped a close 3-2 game to the Rebels, ending their run at this year’s tournament. The Minor Bantams represented the EOMHL with some well played hockey while the tournament proved to be a good barometer for the competitiveness of the 67's relative to its provincial rivals.
Major Bantam 96’s at Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic
The Major Bantams had a strong showing at this year's tournament. The team advanced from the round robin play as the 5th seed out of their pool. In the playoff qualifying round, the Major Bantams out battled a strong skating team from Tampa Bay and won a very exciting double overtime game 3-2. In the Quarter finals, the 67's faced the #1 ranked team in Ontario, the Mississauga Rebels. The team played a hard fought defensive game, backed by superlative goaltending, to take the Rebels into overtime before losing 2-1 to the tournament champions. Congratulations to the players and coaching staff on a great tournament.
Minor Midget’s Go to the Semis
The Minor Midget team faired very well at the prestigious Toronto Marlies hockey tournament held over the Christmas break. The team went 4-0 in round robin play allowing a mere 2 goals against. The four wins in round robin play were 2-0 vs. Kingston, 5-0 vs. North York, 5-1 vs. Brampton, and 3-1 vs. Waterloo. The team was ranked 1st overall after the round robin play out of the 54 participating teams with a percentage of .882%.
In the quarter finals the team faced 7th ranked Halton and defeated them by a score of 3-2. Only 3 hours later the team played their 3rd game of the day facing Whitby in the Semi-finals and lost a hard fought game 3-2 with only 11 players on the bench because of injuries. The team played extremely well with solid goaltending and team play. Hats off to the players, they gave it their all. The coaching staff is very proud of them.
Congratulations to all three teams for your hard work at the Marlies Tournament!

The Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association has voted to make AAA hockey a permanent part of the hockey landscape in the Ottawa area. The vote, by the ODMHA Minor Council which includes representatives from minor hockey associations across the Ottawa area, was unanimous.
“I am grateful for the support the AAA Pilot project received today from Minor Council,” said Andy Baird, the chair of the Steering Committee which oversaw the three-year AAA Pilot Project. Over the coming months, the ODMHA will revise its operating procedures to incorporate the new AAA league into a permanent structure, establishing policies on affiliations, governance of AAA zones, and other issues that must be addressed.
What a way to mark Hockey Day in Canada!
